Georgia's U.S. senators were split on the debt ceiling vote, but they've spent most of this month showing a united front in a series of town halls they held across the state.

Sen. Johnny Isakson and Sen. Saxby Chambliss stopped at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton on Monday and spoke to a crowd of at least 100 people about jobs and the economy. Isakson voted to raise the debt ceiling; Chambliss voted against it. The split was a rarity for the pair, who tend to vote in lockstep.

Most in the crowd did not ask about the debt ceiling vote, focusing instead on issues including government spending, taxes and immigration.

Congress returns to Washington next month and resumes talks on spending cuts and reducing the federal deficit.
