The 9-11 attacks brought big expansions to Georgia's Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick.

The coastal facility trains officers for 90 federal agencies.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is just one agency that trains agents at the center known as FLETC.

ICE academy chief Joseph Wolf says this week the agency dedicated $2.5 million worth of new classroom space at FLETC to continue the work ICE began in the wake of 9-11.

"We were created directly in response to the events of 9-11 to make us more effective and more efficient in conducting the interior enforcement portion of the defense of our borders," Wolf says. "Training is a dynamic enterprise and the biggest challenge is keeping up with the changing dynamic of the threats that we face."

FLETC's sisters sites in New Mexico and South Carolina also have grown.

The site in Brunswick pumps an estimated $313 million into the region each year.

The Forest Service, US Marshals, IRS, Coast Guard and Secret Service are among the agencies using FLETC.
