Forecasters say a cold front is expected to usher in much cooler temperatures across Georgia, bringing a dramatic change in the state's weather by mid-week.

The National Weather Service predicts a high temperature of 86 degrees in the Atlanta area on Monday. WSB-TV reports that would break Atlanta's record high for the date, which is 84 degrees.

The Weather Service says the cold front is expected in the Atlanta area Wednesday, when the high temperature is expected to reach only 56 degrees. Lows Wednesday night in Atlanta are expected to be in the mid-40s.

Weather Service forecasters say highs in the Savannah area are expected to be around 74 degrees Wednesday, with lows Wednesday night around 47 degrees in Savannah.

Highs Wednesday will reach 62 in Macon and 58 in Athens.
