State transportation officials will continue construction of the Fall Line Freeway. The 215 mile road will eventually connect Columbus to Augusta.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is spending 29 million dollars to widen a stretch between Twiggs and Baldwin Counties and build 12 new bridges.

But that won’t complete the road. DOT Board member Jim Cole says nine miles of roadway and a bridge over the Oconee River are still unfunded:

“Anytime that you deal with water and the environment your costs naturally increase.”

Another small stretch of road in Macon is still unfinished because it was slated to go through environmentally sensitive land near the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds.
