10 Commandments Up At State Capitol
Primary Content

A copy of the Ten Commandments went on display at Georgia's state Capitol Thursday, prompting the likely debate on whether the historical document belongs in public buildings or spaces.
The Ten Commandments was hung without much fanfare. The commandments are located with eight other historical documents in a hallway near the Capitol's first-floor snack shop.
Rep. Tommy Benton, R-Jefferson, said he doesn't believe anyone will take offense. Benton sponsored the House Bill 766 to allow the commandments to be displayed in judicial buildings and courthouses
But officials with Americans United for Separation of Church and State said the organization opposes the display. Legislative director Maggie Garrett said her organization needs to look at the display before determining whether to take action.
