Fort Valley State Laying Off 100
Primary Content
Officials at Fort Valley State University say the school's efforts to cut costs will result in about 100 employees losing their jobs.
The employees are mostly temporary and part-time workers.
Fort Valley State Vice President Canter Brown said the university notified the employees Friday, after getting approval of its plan from the Board of Regents last week.
Officials say most of those affected are part-time professors, and that exact number is uncertain because there are accreditation questions surrounding the elimination of some of those positions.
Because the part-time professor positions are under contract, the cuts won't become effective until the spring semester starts.
However, for 28 non-faculty positions, the layoffs are immediate.
