The city council in a metro Atlanta town has decided to oust its mayor after months of controversy.

The Stockbridge City Council voted Monday to remove Mayor Lee Stuart from office. The vote happened after nearly 12 hours of deliberation.

Stuart said he's done nothing wrong, and his attorney said they will appeal the council's decision.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Monday's hearing delved into several accusations against the mayor. They include complaints that he monitored workers' emails and accusations that he created a hostile workplace.

The allegations were brought forward by Christopher Balch, an Atlanta attorney brought in by the council to investigate nearly two dozen allegations and complaints from residents and city employees.

Stockbridge is about 20 miles southeast of Atlanta.
