The new year will bring changes to Georgia’s tax code.
Starting Jan. 1st, the personal exemption for married couples filing jointly will increase from $5,400 to $7,400.
Manufacturers will be exempt from paying state sales tax on energy used to produce their goods in 20-13. The agricultural industry will also enjoy a similar tax break.
Meanwhile, would-be abortion restrictions are on hold.
Lawmakers voted to ban abortions 5 months after an egg is fertilized. There are exceptions, however, when a fetus is unlikely to survive or when a pregnancy threatens the life or health of the mother.
A Fulton County Superior Court judge has put a temporary block on the law while considering a constitutional challenge.
