Forecasters say the weekend's mild weather is giving way to cooler temperatures across Georgia and the threat of flooding in parts of the state.

The weather service says high temperatures in the 70s will be replaced by afternoon temperatures topping out around the 60s in many areas.

Forecasters also have issued a flood watch for six counties in northwest Georgia. They say a slow-moving cold front will bring widespread showers and periods of heavy rain.

The weather service says rainfall amounts of 2 or 3 inches will be common, and some areas could receive as much as 4 inches of rain by Wednesday morning.

The flood watch, in effect through Wednesday morning, covers Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Murray, Walker and Whitfield counties.
