The late bassist Ben Tucker is being remembered as more than a musician.

Savannah residents paid a jazzy tribute to one of its musical legends Monday.

Hundreds of people attended Tucker's funeral.

The 82-year-old jazz artist, businessman and community leader was admired by a wide range of city residents.

After the memorial at Savannah's Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, mourners spilled into the streets for a New Orleans-style procession.

The second line played classic jazz tunes in front of the church before marching alongside Wright Square.

Tucker's recording career spanned 57 years.

But he also was a broadcasting pioneer, creating one of the few black-owned radio stations in the country in 1972.

He died last week when a speeding car struck his golf cart.
