Extended Hours and Free Rides to Macon-Bibb Pools
Primary Content

Dozens of children from the Bloomfield area of Macon enjoyed the pool at Memorial Park Tuesday morning. They were bused in by the county to use that pool since the one at Bloomfield is closed. It’s not expected to open until later this summer due to repairs that need to be made.
Besides the heat, another hot topic among Macon City Council members is that only 3 of the 6 public pools are open.
At a news conference at the Memorial Park pool Tuesday Bibb County Commission Chairman Sam Hart announced a plan that he says will give residents greater access to the pools that are open. "We’re going to have transportation, extended hours, and an opportunity for you to get to this pool until your pool is opened up later in the summer.”
Hart said the county is extending the hours at each of the pools currently open -- Memorial Park, Booker T. Washington and East Macon -- beginning with swim lessons each morning at 9 a.m.
The county is also offering rides from Bloomfield, Frank Johnson and Freedom Park rec centers to the Booker T. Washington pool every Tuesday and Friday through June and July.
