Most Atlanta city employees will get a 3.5 raise under a new budget approved by the Atlanta City Council.
A 1.5 percent increase was approved for firefighters and police.
The council on Monday approved the pay hikes and budget for the new year beginning July 1.
Workers said they deserve a pay raise, especially after city council members voted to give themselves a significant pay increase.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said he believes employees deserve the recognition.
