Mercer Football To Face Another Newcomer
Primary Content
Mercer University football returns Saturday after a week off following a win in the season opener. They’ll take on a fellow start-up program: Warner University.
The central Florida school is 0-2. They were outscored 31-3 in their debut, failing to score in their last 117 minutes of play. They were shut out entirely the second game.
Mercer, on the other hand, is the only undefeated team in the Pioneer League thanks to their 40-37 win in the first week and a bye for the second.
Mercer also lead the conference in attendance with almost 4,000 more fans at Mercer University Stadium than Morehead State’s distant second.
Mercer was also given two Pioneer League weekly honors.
JT Palmer earned Offensive Player of the Week after having four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener.
Josh Shutter was named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week thanks to 59 yards of field goals, including the game winner against Reinhardt.
Mercer athletic officials say turnout this week will probably be less than the debut but still healthy.
Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Saturday.
