Macon DJ Roger Riddle and Y-O Latimore of Poetic Peace Arts join us to talk about fun things to do in Middle Georgia over the weekend and beyond.

Roger's picks for Dec. 19:

'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' at Luther Williams Field

This past summer I had a wonderful experience at Luther Williams field. Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation held a free screening of the movie "42," the Jackie Robinson story, on the green.

They invited everyone to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and their picnic baskets and watch the movie on the field where parts of the movie had been filmed.

It went over so well that Parks and Recreation decided they wanted to start doing this regularly. I love the idea of using yet another historic Macon landmark for such fun events.

This Saturday, Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation will be screening the 2000 release of "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" featuring Jim Carrey.

Admission is free. Gates open at 5 p.m. The movie will begin at 6 p.m. You are welcome to pack a cooler full of goodies and there will also be hot chocolate, coffee, and candy for sale.

Chuck Leavell at the Cox Capitol Theatre

Chuck Leavell is a middle Georgian's middle Georgian. He played with the Allman Brothers. He went on to start his own band, Sea Level, on Capricorn Records.

Then,as if those two accomplishments weren't making it big, he went on to play with the Rolling Stones! He tours the world playing music but he still calls middle Georgia home and we love him for it.

So when word hit that he was going to be playing a concert here in Macon at the Cox Capitol Theatre this Saturday, people have been scrambling to get tickets ever since.
He'll be joined by another middle Georgia favorite, Randall Bramblett. Doors open at 7 p.m. For more information go to coxcapitoltheatre.com.

Y-O's picks for Dec. 19:

Ice Skating at the Macon Coliseum

Did you all know that ice skating dates back to ancient times? The oldest ice skates were made of animal bones and found around 3,000 B.C., somewhere in Switzerland. I never imagined ice skating had been around for so long and I've never been ice skating.

However, that will change on Friday. From 5-7:30 p.m. and from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m., we can go ice skating at the Macon Coliseum, 200 Coliseum Drive. $10 is the cost, and it includes skates.

College Hill Update

If you love coffee and want to know what is going on with the College Hill Alliance, you can attend a session which will give you all the updates on the wonderful progress. It all happens at Jittery Joe's, Thursday, from 10 a.m. until noon. Did I mention free coffee?
