Michelle Dockery is a fan of Mad Men and My So Called Life, plays the guitar and grew up in a working class neighborhood worlds away from Downton’s posh setting. Spend a half hour with her and it would probably become apparent that she is not like her ice queen Downton Abbey character at all. But she’s still very cool in her own right. Here are five things you should know about the lady who plays Lady Mary.

1.) She grew up in Essex without a spoon in her mouth. “My dad worked all sorts of jobs when I was growing up and finally ended up as a surveyor;” she tells Hello magazine.“ My mum delivers meals to old folk around where we live. We didn’t have much money when I was growing up, but I had a very happy childhood.'” She has two older sisters, Louise Sarah and Joanne Michelle Dockery.

2.) She perfected her ice queen Mary stare at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.This academy is known for churning out prestigious actors; Orlando Bloom, Ewan McGregor and Naveen Andrews are some of the alumni.

3.) She sings jazz. IMDB reports that she has sung at the famous London jazz club Ronnie Scotts and joined Elizabeth McGovern on stage with McGovern’s band Sadie and the Hotheads.

4.) She and the cast believe Princess William and Kate Middleton named their baby after Downton’s baby George. She says: 'Well, they called their son George just like Lady Mary does, didn't they? So, on the show, we all think that may be the case.'

5.) She was just as shocked as Downton fans were about Dan Stevens’ departure. "My first reaction was 'Oh, crap,'" says Dockery during the Television Critics Association media tour. "Because I thought, you know, 'Where can the story go now?' We've spent all this time having this on/off, will they/won't they relationship, and then suddenly it was coming to an end."

"But I think that, as much as it was sad to see Dan go, the same as it was to see Jessica go, it opens up opportunity for a new chapter and something quite different - not only for Mary, but the effect it has for other characters."

"So yeah, initially I was concerned. But now I'm not because it's a great series, and it's a very different series to what it could have been."

Rest assured season 4 won’t contain any shocking finale episode deaths. Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern and Hugh Bonneville have renewed their contracts for another two years.
