Primary Content
American Downton fans synchronize your schedules. “Downton Abbey” season 5 premieres January 4, 2015, it has been announced. (Our lucky British counterparts will get to see the new season starting September 14, 2014.)
No major cast shake ups or kill offs have leaked out about the new episodes. In fact, Lesley Nichols, who plays Mrs. Patmore, assured fans in an interview that no major characters die.
It was previously announced that the Crawleys will host several guests including an art historian and a Russian refugee. News is now coming out that Lady Edith’s daughter will make several appearances. The character will be played by twin actresses taking turns playing the role.
Meanwhile the aftermath of Anna’s rape will continue to play out.
“Downton Abbey” remains the highest rated drama on PBS. More than 13 million viewers watched the series when season 4 aired, an increase in audience from last season. Several actors were nominated for 2014 Emmy awards.
