Hugh Bonneville Sets Record Straight On Fate Of Downton Abbey Dog Isis
Primary Content
Rumors have swirled lately that beloved “Downton Abbey” dog Isis is being put out to pasture because she shares a name with the terrorist organization that took over parts of Syria and Iraq.
The speculation comes SPOILER ALERT HERE - because of a storyline in season 5, currently airing in the U.K., where Isis falls ill.
It’s all hearsay though and Hugh Bonneville, Robert Crawley portrayer and Isis’ onscreen owner, is setting the record straight on the fate of the pooch on his personal website.
Hugh writes:
"To clarify recent speculation, the labrador that appeared in Series One (1912-14) was a dog called Pharaoh. From Series Two (1916-1920) onwards, the labrador has been a bitch named – in keeping with the Egyptian theme – Isis. Anyone who genuinely believes the Series 5 storyline (1924) involving the animal was a reaction to recent world news is a complete berk."
Berk by the way is a British slang word for "idiot'.
I won’t further ruin what happens to Isis for you. You can find out by doing an online search or better yet wait until season five airs on GPB starting January 4, 2015 so that you can chat with your American Downton friends about it.
