Can your third grader define the word “slither”? What about the word “devour”? Here’s a fun and no stress way for them to find the definition of those words: the WordGirl Definition Competition. It streams live May 1st at 1 p.m. eastern time. It open to 1st to 3rd graders.

The contest extrapolates the WordGirl animated series’ “May I Have a Word” game show segment and beams it to thousands of classrooms across the country. So students will test their vocabulary skills by being asked questions about word usage, reading comprehension, definitions and how words are used in context.

Classes can submit their answers online during the webcast. But here is the fun part - students can call out their answers too.
