Virtual Field Trip To Warm Springs Now Available
Primary Content
This week we launched the latest addition to our virtual field trip series. Students can now explore Georgia’s historic Warm Springs without leaving the classroom! Warm Springs serves as home to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White House and the natural springs that were historically used for polio treatment. FDR visited Warm Springs regularly for treatment related to his polio. He enjoyed the area so much that after his presidential election, he decided to have a six-room house built. Commonly known as the Little White House, it served as a retreat throughout his presidency.
The Warm Springs virtual field trip offers interviews with Interpretative Ranger Ashley Aultman, interactive 360-degree panoramas, and site photography. All of our virtual field trips align with the Georgia standards for 8th grade social studies, as well as the content from GPB’s Georgia Studies digital textbook.
Over the next two years, we will be traveling all over Georgia to gather content for our virtual field trip series and will continue to launch new trips as soon as they are complete. We understand how important it is for students to learn about our state’s history and culture. As it becomes increasingly difficult for teachers to take students on class field trips due to the high cost of transportation and high demand for limited instruction time, virtual field trips have become an appealing alternative.
Thanks to funding from a Georgia foundation, GPB can create rich, virtual experiences highlighting important Georgia locations. All virtual field trips are free for educators and available through the GPB app on iPad and on the web at gpb.org/virtualfieldtrip. You will need to request a login to get started. If you have a login for the Georgia Studies digital textbook, that login will work for the virtual field trip series.
If you have questions, feel free to email education@gpb.org.
