The Richmond County Board of Education says it is looking to hire up to as many as 100 new teachers and faculty. School officials say recent retirements by more than four dozen teachers and administrators have created a number of new openings.

The average starting salary for a teacher in Georgia is just under $42,000 per year. Public school teachers in Georgia are required to hold a teaching certificate. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission seeks to assist new teachers looking to earn a certificate.
