Walking Dead Television Series Filmed South of Atlanta in Senoia, GA

A feature article by the international news service Reuters documents the changing town of Senoia, GA, home of Cable television’s most popular drama, the Walking Dead.The series recently set an all-time cable television viewing record.

The small (population 3,300) suburban town of Senoia, located 25 miles south of Atlanta, has been home to a few movies over the years, including "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Drop Dead Diva".

Yet, it is the AMC television series “Walking Dead” that is having the most lasting impact. Stores, cafes, and tours have been created to cater to the tens of thousands of visitors who make it to Senoia each year in search of anything ‘Walking Dead”

The series has "forever redefined this town," said Scott Tigchelaar, a developer and president of Raleigh Studios - Atlanta, a film company whose 120-acre property in Senoia serves as home base for the show's production. "'Walking Dead' to Senoia is like 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' to Savannah," he said, referring to the best-selling 1994 novel set in the picturesque Georgia city and made into a movie directed by Clint Eastwood.

Georgia has recently become a national leader in the production of movies, videos and television series. Last year over 300 productions were filmed in Georgia, with perhaps the most famous in Senoia.
