Five Things To Know On Game Day
Primary Content
In honor of starting our fifth season, here are five things to look for in this week’s matchup:
Lowndes @ Roswell…
1. VIKINGS: New Coaches
For Lowndes, you’ll see a lot of new faces, starting with the Offensive Coordinator Tucker Pruitt, formerly of Coffee High School (did someone say “coffee”)?
But wait, there’s more! Their new Defensive Coordinator is David Shores, transplanted out of Peach County. He has a storied history in coaching high school football and is inheriting a deep defense.
So first things first, six new varsity coaches, people… SIX.
2. VIKINGS: New Offense, Same Passion
Under Coach Pruitt’s leadership, you can expect a new-look offense from Lowndes. Pruitt will bring a dominating run game led senior running back James Camon.
The key with Camon is to make a clean tackle. He’s sneaky and can shake defenders in no time. According to Max Preps, he’s the fifth best running back in the state. If the Vikings “hit the ground running” (see what I did there?) and do it well, then it could be a long night for the Hornets on defense. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
3. HORNETS: Justin Ellis a.k.a. “Baby Gronk”
Yeah, you read that right. He’s a versatile tight end who excels in multiple areas. Not only is he big, strong and fast, but he’s physical. He’s a nightmare to matchup against, even if it is Lowndes. At 6’2’’, 229 pounds, he’s not only causing havoc on offense but keep an eye for him on defense too. Playing some linebacker, he excels in get after the quarterback. You’ll spot #87 real quick.
4. HORNETS: Roswell’s Defense Tested
There’s not much more to say here other than: this week will be a really good test for the Roswell defense. Plain and simple. For Roswell, there isn’t a lot of study material in terms of how Lowndes will look offensively under new leadership. It will be interesting to see how they adjust.
5. Games Count.
It’s week zero, which means at this point, everyone has a chance at the title and a trip to the Georgia Dome in December. That’s what everyone wants. This marks a clean slate. It doesn’t matter that Lowndes owns a 2-0 record over the Hornets. It’s all brand new starting on Friday. It’s. About. To. Get. Real. And we’re in it for the long-haul, y’all! See ya for the “All Access Pass” starting at 7:00 PM on GPB!
