Prince Avenue Christian, the No. 1 team in Class A Division I, had its 20-game winning streak broken, but the Wolverines still held onto its position on the top of the GPB football rankings.

Prince Avenue was beaten 45-28 by Mary Persons, the No. 4 team in Class 3A. It was the first setback for coach Greg Vandagriff’s team since they fell in the 2021 state championship game.

“Mary Persons is a really strong team,” said GPB’s Sam Crenshaw. “That may be one of those losses that comes back to help Prince Avenue before they go into the playoffs. They’re still the best team in that classification.”

There were six new teams that moved into this week’s rankings: No. 10 Stockbridge in 4A, No. 9 Bremen in 3A, No. 10 Hephzibah in 4A, No. 10 Athens Academy in 2A, No. 10 Bryan County in Class A Division I and No. 10 Aquinas in Class A Division II.
