Week 4 of the football season will begin with two new No. 1 teams in the GPB rankings.

Marist ascends to the top of the Class 4A rankings and Sandy Creek takes over the top spot in the Class 3A poll after both put up impressive victories last week.

Marist was able to move up from No. 2 after its convincing 38-0 win over Woodward Academy, then ranked No. 10 in Class 5A. The War Eagles (2-0) opened the season by beating Jefferson, the No. 2-ranked team in 3A. Marist was able to overtake Cartersville (3-0), who beat Hapeville Charter 24-0.

Sandy Creek jumped up a spot to No. 1 after top-ranked Calvary Day lost 16-15 at Oceanside Collegiate (S.C.) on the road. Sandy Creek (3-0) overpowered Class No. 8 LaGrange 27-7. Calvary Day fell to No. 4.

The other top spots remain the same: Carrollton in 6A, Milton in 5A, Pierce County in 2A, Savannah Christian in A Division I and Bowdon in A Division II. Savannah Christian remains No. 1 in the Private rankings.

New teams in the rankings this week are: North Gwinnett, which entered the 6A rankings after beating Colquitt County, now No. 10; Sequoyah at No. 10 in 5A; Harris County at No. 10 in 4A; Cherokee Bluff at No. 8 in 3A; Appling County at No. 10 in 2A; and Jeff Davis at No. 10 in Class A Division I.

Harris County last week became only the fourth team in GHSA history to open the season with three consecutive wins over state-ranked teams, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.
