Mary Persons took out its season-long frustrations on Sandy Creek on Friday and knocked the No.1-ranked Patriots out of the top spot in the Class 3A rankings.

Mary Persons beat Sandy Creek 37-29 to hand the Patriots their first loss and knock them down to No. 5 in the GPB Top Ten.

Peach County jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 after its 48-17 victory over No. 9 Cairo. The Trojans improved to 8-1 with their only loss to Class 4A Region 1 champion Perry, ranked No. 5.

Mary Persons had to forfeit three games earlier this season because of an ineligible player and will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 COVID season. “We finally got one to go our way,” Mary Persons coach Brian Nelson told the Georgia High School Football Daily. “It will be a great memory for our seniors and the rest of our team.”

All other No. 1 teams held their positions: Carrollton in 6A, Milton in 5A, Marist in 4A, Pierce County in 2A, Toombs County in A Division I, Manchester in A Division II, and Savannah Christian in Private.

New teams entering the rankings this week are: Woodward Academy, No. 10 in 5A; Ware County, back in at No. 9 in 4A; Carver-Atlanta, No. 10 in 2A; Northeast Macon, No. 9 in Division I; Commerce, No. 10 in Division I; and Whitefield Academy, No. 9 in Private.
