On senior night the Brookwood Broncos got a field goal from a senior to take a 3-0 halftime lead over the visiting Grayson Rams and added a late TD to defeat the Rams 10-0 to move to 8-1, 6-1 in Region 8-AAAAA play. The Broncos and the Rams entered play Friday night each with one region loss, but it was Brookwood’s defense that made more plays to bring Head Coach Mark Crews and his squad to within a victory over Berkmar from a fourth region title in six years. The two-time defending region champion Rams had several opportunities inside the Brookwood redzone, but a missed first half field goal and a failed fourth down conversion from the two-yard line left the Rams with a second straight region loss, the first time that has happened since 2006.

Brookwood and Grayson exchanged punts for most of the first half and when the offenses seemed to find rhythm, yellow laundry would kill momentum for both sides. Finally Brookwood was able to punch a field goal through before the end of the half and Crews and company had a lead.

The defense would take care of the rest. The Broncos defensive unit has not given up a touchdown in 14 quarters after whitewashing the Rams. Now Brookwood will travel to Berkmar, a team it has beaten 19 straight times. Win that one and the Broncos will once again hoist the region title. Grayson meanwhile will now battle for the No.3 seed in its season finale next week.
