As part of an Aug. 24 promotion for the new Peacock drama series, Fight Night: Million Dollar Heist, businesses will feature retro prices for everything from fried chicken sandwiches to manicures, in hopes of taking viewers back to 1970 Atlanta, where the real-life hold-up happened. 

20,000 square feet of wallspace distributed across three buildings in southwest Atlanta will soon bear new murals by 50+ local artists. The Atlanta Crossroads Mural Festival (ACMF) inaugural mural festival will culminate in a celebration of public art with a market featuring more than 30 local artists, makers, and food vendors this Sat., July 27 from 12-6 p.m.

The musical's producers hope to bring Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to Broadway after its initial run in Chicago. GPB Savannah reporter Benjamin Payne attended opening night in Chicago, and has this review.

Tickets are available now for the 2024 Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre, Aug. 23-25. The opening film on Aug. 23 has not been announced, but there will be a sing-a-long showing of “The Little Mermaid” at 3 p.m. and “Bohemian Rhapsody” at 8 p.m. on Aug. 24,.

This year, Clark Atlanta University's radio station, WCLK Jazz 91.9 FM, is celebrating its golden anniversary. As part of the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the station will be honored in a "WLCK At 50" event at Atlanta's Symphony Hall on May 24, featuring Lil John Roberts and an Atlanta All-Star Band. Roberts may not be a household name, but this "musician's musician" has played with luminaries including Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Prince, Elton John and Janet Jackson.

After roughly 40 years in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival is looking for a new home – and Atlanta might be in the running. 

If it could be summed up in a sentence: Rico Wade's "celebration of life" April 26 at Ebenezer Baptist Church was something Rico Wade would understandably not stop talking about. A U.S. senator eulogized him, the current and a former mayor of Atlanta shared their passionate remarks, the 52-year old was given the city's honor and it was announced that a music industry executive training program will be launched in his name.

"Rico was our leader. We were the orchestra and he was the conductor," said Kawan "K.P. The Great" Prather, one-third of the early hip-hop group Parental Advisory, now a Grammy Award-winning songwriter in The Dungeon Family. 

The Atlanta indie FILM scene has continued to grow, and certainly there are more opportunities for filmmakers trying to make it than there were a decade ago. But some local filmmakers still feel they are not taken as seriously or given the same consideration as their counterparts in Los Angeles or New York. 

It's been nearly 10 years since Andre and his partner in Atlanta rap act OutKast, Antwan "Big Boi" Patton, headlined a sold-out, three-night stand at Centennial Olympic Park — and two decades since the duo released Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, now the best-selling rap album of all time. 

For decades, developers have explored what to do with Underground Atlanta. But now, the long vacant downtown retail center is entering a new phase as a grassroots arts hub, recently hiring set designer Marina Skye and artist Mike Stasny to direct the project. GPB’s Jake Cook spoke with Stasny and artist Jamie Shelton at Stasny’s studio space and art venue in Underground Atlanta.
