The Georgia River Network will host the Georgia Rivers Gala at the Atlanta History Center on Aug. 22 to honor river protectors and support the future of river recreation.
As a storm front moved across Georgia in the overnight hours Sunday and throughout the day Monday, heavy rainfall caused flooding on roadways and rivers swelled. The National Weather Service is urging residents to be aware of possible flooding conditions and to exercise caution when driving.

A two-part story will take a trip down the Chattahoochee to explore the economic gains and environmental challenges over the last decade that have incurred from this $26 million restoration project.
The government is expected to issue its first water shortage declaration for the river, which supplies more than 40 million people. That will mean hardships for farms, recreation and Indian tribes.
