Georgia Race Through Time, GPB’s new history adventure game, was recently selected as a 2017 Parents’ Choice Approved Award Winner by the Parents’ Choice Foundation, the nation’s oldest nonprofit consumer guide to quality children’s media. 

The game was produced in partnership with FableVision Studios and is aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for 8th grade social studies. The unique storyline features Savannah, a young antiques expert, and her trusted canine companion, Peaches, as they seek to find historical artifacts hidden in cities all over Georgia from Athens to Vidalia.    

The Parents’ Choice Awards is designed to help parents and caregivers make informed decisions about which new products are right for their children. The Award program honors quality media in the audio, books, DVD, magazines, computer software, television, toys and video games categories. 

The evaluation process is lengthy and comprehensive. It’s a multi-tiered process that queries developmentally appropriate content and challenges, the product’s design and function, the educational value, long-term play value, and the benefits to a child’s social and emotional growth and well being. Only approximately 20 percent of those items submitted to the Parents’ Choice Awards™ program receive a commendation in one of the six award levels.

Georgia Race Through Time begins with Savannah and Peaches receiving a mysterious email inviting them to participate in a race to collect historical artifacts. Students help them compete by following along in the challenges and answering Georgia history questions. When all of the artifacts have been retrieved with the help of students completing the challenges successfully, Savannah and Peaches save the day and win fame and fortune.
