Clarke Central-Flowery Branch should be a fantastic game tonight. Both teams have steamrolled their way through Region 8-AAAA and are undefeated. It should be interesting to see how the teams respond to actually being in a competitive game (assuming one team doesn’t dominate), as each team has won every game by at least 13 points. The Falcons’ Austin Brown and the Gladiators’ Martay Mattox should light up the scoreboard in this one. … There is a bit of a logjam in the Region 4-AAAAA playoff race, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. McEachern has the top seed locked down, but the next four spots are up for grabs. South Cobb and Hillgrove are both looking good at 4-2, and can clinch the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds tonight, respectively, with wins. But there is a three-way tie behind them at 3-3 with Harrison, North Cobb and Pebblebrook. The team with the best shot out of that grouping is North Cobb, who just needs to defeat Harrison tonight for the No. 4 seed. … The oldest football rivalry in South Georgia will take place tonight in Moultrie when Valdosta visits Colquitt County. The game will decide second place in Region 1-AAAAA as each team enters will one region loss. The Wildcats are in unchartered waters for a program that helped give the town of Valdosta the name “Winnersville”. Tonight, the Cats will have to win in order to have a home playoff game for the first time in the senior class’ careers. It should be a shootout as Rush Propst’s Packers are averaging 34.8 points per game while Valdosta averages 34.7.
