I was bummed that Mayim Bialik didn’t win the best supporting actress EMMY this weekend. I thought it would have been really cool for Mayim to win because she doesn’t just play a nerdy neuro scientist on the Big Bang Theory television show, she is a neuroscientist in real life.

Bialik holds a Ph.D in neuroscience and teaches the subject in her home school community. Because of her background, she often serves as a consultant on the sitcom.

What an amazing role model for young girls, right? They are too often bombarded with Hollywood actresses, singers or reality TV divas behaving badly to emulate. But here is a person that truly embodies brains and beauty and her career path in science is one that students can dare to imitate.
