There were no changes at the No. 1 spots in any of the classifications in this week’s GPB football rankings. That includes in Class 3A, where Cedar Grove lost its game to Class 7A Mill Creek and did not fall from its top spot.

“Cedar Grove played very well against a talented Mill Creek team from the state’s highest classification,” GPB voter Stephen Graham said. “They’re still the best team in Class 3A and there was no need to drop them.”

The Saints will have a similar test on Friday when they travel to Moultrie to play Class 7A No. 3 Colquitt County. Cedar Grove competes in a four-team region, meaning coach John Adams had to find seven non-region contests. It is hard for the Saints – who have won three state titles over the last four seasons -- to get games against teams in their own classification. They were forced to go out-of-state for two opponents and on the road against a series of larger Georgia teams. Cedar Grove has not played a home game all year.

While the No. 1-ranked teams remained the same, there were several newcomers to the rankings: East Coweta entered at No. 10 in Class 7A, Pace Academy at No. 9 in Class 4A, Lovett at No. 10 in Class 4A, Appling County at No. 10 in Class 2A, Elbert County at No. 10 in Class A Division I, McIntosh County Academy at No. 8 in Class A Division II and Telfair County at No. 10 in Division II.
