Great Job! Oconee County Schools

North Oconee High and Oconee County High, have been recognized by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development for organizing “Go Build Georgia” High School teams.

According to a news release from the Governor’s Office, “Congratulations to Oconee County Schools for reaching 100 percent Go Build Georgia High School team participation,” said Blake Ashbee, Interim Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. “We are encouraged by the success of the Go Build Georgia High School team project and we know that these bright students are going to build Georgia’s workforce for years to come.”

Governor Nathan Deal launched Go Build Georgia in January 2012 through the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. To date, 172 schools have chosen to implement a Go Build Georgia High School team. Teams are comprised of educators, counselors and business leaders spanning across five key high-growth industry sectors including: manufacturing, industrial construction, energy, telecommunications and transportation industries, with the goal of promoting career paths in the skilled trades.

“The Go Build Georgia initiative is an exciting opportunity to create a stronger partnership with the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, Oconee County Schools and the local business community,” said Superintendent Jason L. Branch, Ph.D. “By creating teams at 100 percent of our schools, OCS is demonstrating a clear commitment to provide more hands-on learning that relates traditional classroom preparation to the jobs of tomorrow. This real-world approach is good for our community and our students.”

The Go Build Georgia High School team project has a goal to establish a team in at least 168 high schools across Georgia by the end of this school year.
