Sports Safety Has Become a Serious Concern in High School Athletics

Brendan Rosenberg from the Holy Innocents School and Jacob Schlanger from North Springs High won first place in the Brock International Safety MVP national video contest.

The Atlanta area students set out to show why safety in high school sports is as important as winning.

According to a news release from Brock International, the pair took a humorous “Sports Center” approach to the topic. Their video features interviews with a student-athlete and safety tips from Holy Innocents Football Coach and Junior Boys Dean Ryan Livzey. Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School will receive the competition’s grand prize of $5,000 worth of sports equipment for their team.

“Our coaches’ start every season talking about safety and making it a priority,” explained Rosenberg. “The school's philosophy is not ‘to win at all costs’ because each coach wants his or her players to be healthy, safe and have longevity so they can continue to build a winning team season after season.”

Brock International is an Official Education Partner of The Sports Legacy Institute, a Boston-based non-profit organization founded to advance the study, treatment, and prevention of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups.
