New Social Learning Network To Try Out Flexiguru
Primary Content
I recently took a test drive of Flexiguru.com. It’s the latest online learning social network for teachers and students. It has more than 10,000 resources for learners to choose from. These include videos, ebooks, presentations, full courses and assessments. A few elements set the site apart from other online learning destinations and MOOCS (Massive Open Online Courses.) Content is created by contributors from all over the world. Contributors can provide their content for free or charge a fee.
Content isn’t limited to K-12 subjects. It also covers professional learning topics. So for instance you’ll find preparation for the GATE IT (Information Technology) exam in its library. (This is offered for a fee of $10.00.). You’ll also find Accounting and Economics classes. Those courses are also offered for a fee.
Flexiguru contains all of the standard features most social networks have: you can create a profile, add a photo to it, fill in your details and subscribe to courses. You make "friends" by making connections with other members. There is also a “chatroom” type area where you can post questions and answer queries posted by others.
Should you use Flexiguru? I’ll leave that up to you. The interface is simple enough although I had trouble signing up using Facebook. It took three tries before it accepted me. I found the some of the course fees were a bit high. Some of the free ones were not that engaging. A presentation on Basic Photoshop did not include screenshots to illustrate what the contributor was talking about so it was hard to follow.
Some of the video lessons were also simplistic. But this may be simple solution for students and teachers looking for learning material to keep their minds fresh over the summer break. The online test preparation classes may be a could solution for students who will take the SAT in the fall. It may also be an opportunity for educators who are looking to make extra money to share and sell their courses.
Flexiguru.com is available in the iTunes store and on Google Play so you can download it on your smartphones and tablets.
