Bankrate.com has released its annual list of the top community colleges in the nation. This year Altamaha Technical College in Jesup, GA has been ranked #3 overall.

The highly popular financial website ranked more than 900 public colleges on six criteria:

  • graduation rate
  • student retention rate
  • the student-faculty ratio
  • the school’s in-state tuition and fees
  • the percentage of full-time first-time undergraduates receiving financial aid
  • the average amount of grant aid they received from federal, state and private sources combined

The data used in the study was from full-time students who entered college in the fall of 2008. Altamaha was particularly strong in a number of the criteria considered. The school has a 12-1 student-faculty ratio, tuition of only $2,100 per year and 97 percent of first-time full-time students receive financial aid.
