Construct an explanation about the importance of molecular-level structure in the functioning of designed materials.
Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about how to refine the design of a chemical system by applying engineering principles to manipulate the factors that affect a chemical reaction.
1. What is the difference between Newtons, watts, and joules? What do they have in common?
2. Railroads deal a lot in logistics, something covered in the Georgia Port Authority episode. How might military experience be useful in helping CSX execute logistics?
Welding: to join pieces of metal together by heating the edges until they begin to melt and then pressing them together
Thermite: a mixture of metal powder and metal oxide that can lit on fire
Chemical Reaction: a process in which one or more substances, the reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, the products
Oxide: a compound of oxygen and another substance
Ore: rocks, earth, etc., from which a valuable metal can be taken
Horsepower: a unit used to measure the power of engines
